Heather is originally from Detroit, MI but spent the past 8 years in Charleston, SC where she worked for five years in community mental health.
Heather has over ten years of experience as a therapist. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Tri-State University in Indiana in 2007 and went on to earn her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University in 2010. Heather worked for three years with clients dually diagnosed with substance abuse/dependence and mental health disorders and provided group and individual therapy. She worked for five years in community mental health with clients with a wide range of diagnoses providing individual, group and family therapy.
Heather considers her style laid back and relaxed and feels that humor can be a useful tool in the therapy setting. She approaches therapy from a person-centered perspective meaning that she believes that her clients have the tools and resources necessary to grow and she can assist them with developing and enhancing that growth. Heather uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to help clients apply what they learn in session in the “real world”.
In her role as clinical director Heather is always striving to improve the quality of care, access to services, and atmosphere at Northshore Counseling and Wellness. Heather is always open to feedback and hopes to make the therapy journey a positive and rewarding one for everyone involved.
