Dr. Crapanzano earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1992. He then completed a one-year internal medicine internship and subsequent psychiatry residency at The Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans. During his final year of residency in 1995–96, he served as chief resident in the Department of Psychiatry. He treats patients who are at least 18 years old, and he is board certified in the specialty of psychiatry by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Since completing his residency, Dr. Crapanzano has worked in both the private and public sectors of medicine. While holding various staff positions, he has obtained a significant amount of experience in treating patients with serious psychiatric disorders, including patients with significant comorbidity. He has treated a variety of psychiatric illnesses over the years, though he mainly treats mood, psychotic, and anxiety disorders.
His primary responsibilities include performing initial psychiatric evaluations and psychopharmacological treatment for his patients. This is done while working with nonmedical therapists who are available to concurrently provide psychotherapy.
