Cefalu Linsay, Master’s PLPC

Linsay Cefalu, PLPC

Originally from Alexandria, LA, Linsay moved to Northshore in 2015. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Psychology. Upon graduating, she took a break from her studies to work full time. In 2013, she began working with the Department of Children and Family Services as a child abuse/neglect investigator. This line of work inspired her to want to help those who have been directly affected by trauma. She left DCFS to pursue graduate school full time, and enrolled at Southeastern LA University in 2014. While in graduate school, she worked part-time with the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s Office in the child support division for two years where she gained knowledge about the law regarding child support, divorce, custody, and paternity. She received her Master’s degree in Counselor Education with a concentration in Marriage, Family, and Couples’ Therapy in December 2017. She also received her provisional license the same month.  Linsay intends to receive her full state license in summer 2020.

Linsay’s focus is to empower clients to recognize their own strengths, and encourage them to use them to their advantage. Counseling is a collaborative effort with the client in the driver’s seat. She uses a person-centered approach in order to gain rapport with clients, while utilizing tenets of cognitive-behavioral therapy to identify distorted thought patterns and behaviors. She has experience with anxiety disorders, depression, adjustment/transitional issues, grief, trauma, relationship issues, LGBTQ+ issues, and children/adolescents in the foster care system. She works with adolescents as young as 12 years old, as well as adults. She also works with couples. Linsay’s approach in couples’ counseling is direct intervention in identifying communication patterns, and utilizing specific skills in order to create new habits in communication as well as emotional expression. She also employs a strengths-based approach in order to determine where the couple can gain insight through their own strengths that both parties bring to the table, and make necessary changes accordingly.

In her spare time, Linsay enjoys all things nerdy; Star Wars, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Marvel and DC comics, Dungeons and Dragons, and is an avid gamer. She also cosplays with her husband Kevin any chance she gets, and loves discussing how geek/nerd culture can connect others and build community with similar interests. She attends Wizard World Comic Con every single year in January, and you might see her in full costume if you can recognize her.
