I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Louisiana. I currently hold a Master’s Degree in Criminology from Louisiana State University, a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans. I have served as a visiting professor in the Department of Education at Loyola University in New Orleans and I currently teach online counseling courses at Texas A&M International University. I have worked with clients of all populations and specialize in working with individuals struggling with substance abuse and anger management issues. I have an extensive history working with court mandated clients including, but not limited to Diversion clients and Drug Court clients. In my practice, I utilize various evidence based counseling techniques, strategies and interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person Centered Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Gestalt Therapy with an underlying existential approach to the entire therapeutic process.
As a strong proponent in personal evolution I entered the mental health profession over twelve years ago to help others find a sense of peace in their own personal journeys towards self-discovery. I am a firm believer that we all need a little help throughout our lives and that therapy is merely a tool that helps individuals increase their own levels of personal awareness. Through the therapeutic process, I utilize a collaborative approach with you, the client, to help you set individual goals and implement techniques and strategies that will help you to make those goals a reality. Too often in life, we all find ourselves “stuck” and lost without a sense of purpose and direction. There should be no shame or stigma in the therapeutic process; it takes great courage to reach out and ask for help and as scary as change can be at times; let’s face it, it is a big part of life. No one should have to face their life challenges alone, nor should they have to navigate through all the variables that contribute to or decrease from their own sense of peace and happiness by themselves.
I am a strong believer in taking the “guess work” out of therapy. The way I see it, I am here to help you, the client, get to where you want to be; you are the expert in your own life and together we can sit down and sort through whatever you may be struggling with. Whether it is grief, anxiety, anger, depression, self-esteem, coping, life changes or addiction I am confident that the therapeutic process can assist in shedding some light on your individual situation. So if you are new to therapy, or a seasoned veteran, I invite you to come in and see what we can do for you at Northshore Counseling and Wellness. Let us work together to help you find the answers you seek to whatever questions you might be facing during this particular chapter of your life.
